科學家們開發將人類意識「上身」進高度擬真的機器動物體內，讓使用者以動物的樣貌與牠們溝通互動。主角梅寶是一位熱愛動物的大學生，她藉此機會將意識「上身」入機器河狸體內，認識了河狸國王喬治，理解並學習動物界的生存法則，比方看似佛系的「池塘準則」等等…。在這過程中，她也意外看透陰謀鬥爭：當市長傑瑞計畫開發自然棲地、破壞動物家園時，梅寶決定挺身而出，她與動物同伴們能否成功挽救自然棲地?
